1. Scope and Principles
The Caucasus Journal of Social Sciences recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are increasingly used in scholarly research and publishing. These tools may support certain aspects of writing, analysis, and editorial processing; however, their use must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with principles of research integrity.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computational systems capable of generating or modifying text, data, images, or analytical outputs, including large language models and machine learning systems.
The journal permits the use of AI tools only where such use does not compromise the originality, accuracy, accountability, confidentiality, or ethical integrity of scholarly work. This policy aligns with international best practices, including COPE guidelines.
2. Use of AI by Authors
2.1 Permitted Use
- Language editing and grammar correction
- Improving clarity, readability, or organization
- Formatting references and manuscript structure (APA style)
AI tools must not replace the author’s intellectual contribution or critical judgment.
2.2 Prohibited Use
- Generating or fabricating data, results, or findings
- Producing scholarly arguments without human verification
- Generating false or non-existent references
- Paraphrasing sources in a way that obscures attribution
- Manipulating images, data, or results unethically
- Circumventing peer review or editorial processes
2.3 Transparency and Disclosure
All use of AI tools must be disclosed in an AI Use Statement, placed before the References section.
- Name of the AI tool
- Purpose of use
Example:
The author used ChatGPT (OpenAI, accessed Month Year) for language editing and clarity improvement. All content was reviewed and verified by the author.

- Authors are fully responsible for all content
- All AI-assisted material must be verified and approved
- Sources must be accurate and properly cited
2.5 Data Protection and Confidentiality
- No unpublished manuscripts or data uploaded to AI tools
- No confidential or sensitive information shared
- Compliance with data protection standards is required
2.6 Use of AI in Research Design and Analysis
- AI use must be described in the Methods section
- Processes must be transparent and reproducible
- Limitations and potential biases must be disclosed
3. Use of AI in Editorial and Desk Check Processes
3.1 Permitted Use
- Reference formatting and citation matching
- Language and grammar checks
- Technical compliance with journal guidelines
3.2 Restrictions and Confidentiality
- Full manuscripts must not be uploaded to public AI tools
- Only anonymized excerpts may be used
- Confidential information must be removed
3.3 Limitations of AI Use
- AI must not evaluate scientific quality
- AI must not assess originality or plagiarism
- AI must not make editorial decisions
3.4 AI Detection Tools
The journal may use AI-detection tools, including Copyleaks, for preliminary screening.
- Results are indicative only
- Not used as sole evidence
- Subject to human evaluation
The journal recognizes limitations of AI-detection technologies.
4. Use of AI by Reviewers
- Manuscripts must not be uploaded to AI tools
- Confidentiality must be maintained
