The article deals with the problem of exploring the essence of the phenomenon of defeated expectancy. The multidimensionality of the mentioned phenomenon provides the possibility of viewing the effect of the defeated expectancy
from different perspectives. It seems that there is no clear definition of the status of the defeated expectancy: the question - what is the defeated expectancy – is it an effect or a situation? - is still waiting to be answered. We consider the reason for this to be the fact that a complex analysis of the means of realizing the defeated expectation has not been carried out.
The conducted research gave us an opportunity to answer the mentioned question. The factors causing the phenomenon of defeated expectancy have been integrated into two groups:
1. The factors related to the speaker,
2. The factors related to the situation.
